There are several categories of visas enabling employers to recruit skilled workers from overseas or who are temporarily in Australia.

The most commonly used temporary work visa is the "temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), which can in some instances be a pathway to a permanent employer sponsored visa (subclass 186) :
